Siting Your AllSun Tracker
Any solar power system needs a sunny location for maximum solar access. The AllSun Tracker needs approximately a 50 by 50 foot open area with unshaded southern exposure.
Peak sun
The requirements for siting the AllSun Tracker are different than for fixed solar panels. Unlike fixed solar panels, it's important to consider obstructions to the east and west as well as to the south with trackers. That’s because over the course of a day, the tracker rotates close to 300 degrees, capturing the sun from early morning to late afternoon.
As part of our site evaluation process, AllEarth Renewables assesses different locations on your property with a solar calculation tool. This helps us determine an area with the maximum solar access by calculating the yearlong effects of shading by trees or other obstacles.
Other considerations when siting a tracker are:
- The distance to an electrical panel, sub panel, or remote meter - ideally this distance should not exceed 1,000 feet.
- Soil structure is a factor in determining the support needed for the tracker base and in burying lines leading to the electrical panel.
- Proximity to and landscaping near neighbors are important considerations in more densely populated areas. You can install trackers close to your property lines, but if possible, it's helpful to consider sites that are less obtrusive to your neighbors.
